Seems like we've had this debate before. It's just that the parameters of the argument change. People are holding on to anything they can to justify their hate of Tim Tebow (or the Tebow "hype"). Tebow haters have jumped from he can't run in the NFL to he can't play in the NFL to he can't win in the NFL to he can't throw in the NFL to whatever is next.
Before the draft it wasn't just that Tebow couldn't throw, but also that he wouldn't be able to run the ball in the NFL the way he did in college because NFL players are too fast for him. Tebow set records in terms of QB's and their athleticism at the combine and people were still unconvinced. People thought he wouldn't be able to take the beatings running QB's take.
In his very first start last year he hauled off a 40 yard touchdown run over and through the Raiders. Tebow has actually put up better running stats in the NFL than in college. Couple that with the fact that Tebow is 6'3" and 245 lbs and not 5'10" 180 lbs like Mike Vick and Eric Crouch and we can see why Tebow is such a threat to run it without being injury prone.
Then forward to this year when Tebow supposedly struggled in training camp and was allegedly demoted to 4th string. Even after Kyle Orton started the year 1-4 haters remained absolute in their belief that Tebow would produce worse results because Orton was a "polished" pocket passer. They jumped on even harder after the loss to Detroit.
Even after Tebow won a few games haters kept saying that he can't throw the ball effectively in the NFL. He's been called the worst QB in the league, even in league history by some. I don't know what they are watching, but 95% of the teams in this league would trade their results with Tebow's results.
Even after his win against Minnesota where he passed the ball efficiently his haters have remained strong. Tim Tebow has had 10 NFL starts and is 7-3 in them, yet people still continue to hate. This is the same Denver team that had the 2nd worst record in the league last year. The same team that started 1-4 this year. Actually it's not they traded away their best WR all-pro caliber Brandon Lloyd for a bag of chips and Knowshown Moreno is injured for the year because even the Denver front office isn't sold on Tebow yet.
I don't know what people expect from Tim Tebow, but you can't argue with the results. He's only had 10 starts in the NFL (7 of them wins) and people judge him like he's a 10 year veteran who isn't supposed to make any mistakes at all. In fact if you look at his first 10 starts and compare them to many QB's they compare favorably with many Hall of Fame QBs, and yet people are still hating.
Haters can keep saying that the NFL will catch up with Tebow or that he can't sustain these results or what ever they want. The results are there.
Another ridiculous claim I've heard haters say is that Tebow shouldn't start at QB because he won't ever win a super bowl. That's laughable because you can say that about 25 starting QBs in this league. I guess they shouldn't start either.
Haters can claim that the Denver defense deserves all the credit for the wins. I guess they forgot defense wins games and that at the super bowl last year the defenses were ranked 1 and 2. Does that make Rodgers and Rothlesberger bad QBs? Brady and Manning only won when their defenses were stout or down right dominant. It's no coincedence that once New England's defense slipped they haven't won a super bowl, not even when they had the most dominant offense in league history in 2007.
I don't know what people are expecting, but if you are too worried about the future you will miss the present, and you might miss something truly special if you do that. Tebow has completely turned around this Denver team in the middle of a season. They were left for dead and hadn't won 2 games in a row since 2009, but now they are not just a playoff conteder, but a playoff factor. Sit back and enjoy the ride.
